Product Description
Treat your family and friends to vegetable chips, apple fritters, exotic dishes and, of course, French fries with the Magimix 11606 Pro 500 Deep Fryer. Made from high quality stainless steel, the fryer has a 4 litre oil capacity and a special cool zone for long life, clean oil without smell or taste transfer. It was in France, in the heart of Burgundy - a region noted for its gastronomy - that Magimix invented the food processor more than thirty years ago. The Magimix food processor was the domestic version of appliances designed for professional use. Magimix gradually broadened its range to cover all the functions performed by small electrical kitchen appliances, though never compromising its four basic values: quality, practicality, simplicty, appearance.Magimix products are designed to make life simpler for the serious cook. Most have their roots in professional products originally designed for commercial use. For this reason they work well and are built better to last stronger. The range combines the best cooking traditions with today's technology, and is supported by strong domestic use guarantees and after sales service. Serious cooking should be fun and satisfying, not hard work. With Magimix the most demanding tasks can be accomplished quickly, easily, and quietly.

5 out of 5 stars Producto Fantastica!!!   January 25, 2010

I did a lot of research to find the ultimate consumer deep fryer money could buy.

Magimix Fryer came up at the top. However, after reading a couple of negative reviews about this product on Amazon.co.uk, I started to doubt my selection. Both these reviews highlighted a major flaw; poor calibration.

Later on, I found a newer version of the same fryer; the Pro 500. I took my chances and bought one.

Oh Boy! This has turned out to be an awesome machine! The thermostat, timer and calliberation work spot on.

The only criticism is the UK model does not come with a lid with a built-in filter, as the French one does. I am still struggling to procure a lid with the filter in it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! YOU WONT GO WRONG WITH THIS!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Magimix fryer   September 3, 2010

Whilst ideally the deep fat fryer would go to 190 degrees, 180 is more than adequate for most deep frying. Other reviews suggest that the fryer does not cook chips of fry fish very well, all I can say is that mine does - In fact, wonderfully chrunchy chips! As with all chips cook initially at 130 - 140 degrees without colouring then remove drain and set aside to cool (ideally in the fridge), when you want to eat, set fryer to maximum setting and cook chips until crisp and golden - A little cooking knowledge goes a long way!
Additionally, the design of the fryer is excellent for cleaning.

bought the pro 500 on magimix's reputation.bad decision
GOOD POINTS
quick to heat up
build quality
timer

BAD POINTS
only heats to 180 (not hot enough)
only starts to heat up when timer is on.
oil splashes all over the control surface

I'm disappointed with this fryer considering it's supposed to be a prosumer unit.chips are soggy and oil laden.Save some money and buy a cheaper model

Thought I'd bite the bullet, invest in a proper deep fat fryer and make 'proper' fish and chips. The Magimix Pro 500 looked the part and of course with the Magimix reputation it was a no brainer. I wish now that I'd looked a little deeper. Then I might have realised that it doesn't reach the magic 190 degrees needed to fry properly so is in fact not a deep fat fryer, just a deep fat thingy. In fact it doesn't even reach the max 180 degrees shown on the control knob. I tested it with a proper cooks jam thermometer and the most I could get out of it was 170 degrees. I did manage to cook battered fish and chips but they were not the crispy kind that anything called a deep fat fryer should have been capable of delivering.

I wish now that I'd invested my money in a decent pan and a basket and stuck to doing deep frying the old fashioned way. I'd advise anyone who wants to deep fry to get a decent thermometer and avoid this product. Just be careful, at least the Magimix won't cause a chip pan fryer so be extra careful if you do it the old fashioned way with a thermometer.
