Customer Reviews: Deep Fat Fryer ReviewFebruary 15, 2010 Melanie Campbell 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I purchased this fryer so I could fry a full sized haddock fillet which my mini fryer was too small to do.
1. The oil level indicator, showing the minimum/maximum levels is part of the black tank itself and is impossible to see unless you have the tank out of the unit for cleaning. This means it's impossible to establish the oil level without taking the fryer apart and removing the oil.
2. I find that the oil temperature gauge is unreliable and in reality is much lower than the temperature switch indicates. For example when I attempted to fry fish at the recommended temperature on the dial (and having waited for the indicator light showing the unit was ready) , the oil wasn't even hot enough to make a sizzle when the food was put in. In order to achieve any crispiness at all, I have to fry the food at the highest temperature on the dial and even then it takes twice as long as my mini fryer only to produce an inferior result.
3. The lid provided cannot be used when the unit is in use so the oil spits everywhere.
3. I hate the fact that the element is exposed in the tank. This prevents you from frying without the basket, a facility I wanted.
4. Following the instructions given for preventing food sticking to the bottom of the basket, doesn't work. The food sticks no matter what.
5. I wish that Amazon made the manufacturer's give far more detailed descriptions of what each gadget does or doesn't do rather than one line of text with customer reviews copied from one model to another, rather than separate reviews for each model.
I would not recommend this product. If manufacturers made a smaller number of good quality models rather than a host of models the majority of which are useless, then excessive contributions to landfill could be avoided.
