| Customer Reviews: chicken, chips and cheeseballs August 12, 2010 bendybogle (uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used this appliance only the once and have to say I'm quite impressed as this it's pretty much the first time I've deep fried anything.
I purchased some chicken (thighs, fillets and drumsticks), and coated them in a southern coating, then started to fry them up - I had to do 3 frys to get just 2 drums, 2 thighs and around 5 sliced up fillet pieces done so in total about half an hour to do. I filtered the oil through a sieve after I had cooked them as it took on a lot of the coating. From what I have read though I should have another 5ish uses or 3 weeks idling before needing to replace.
They did however, turn out perfectly.
So pro's and cons of the machine:
Pros
Looks quite smart.
Uses only around 600ml of oil for minimum level.
Heats up in around 3-4 minutes.
Good for 1 or 2 people.
Thermostat for variable cooking temps.
Cons
It is really small, smaller than even I anticipated, for 2 people you are talking making 2 batches ideally.
No safety indications as far as I can see - e.g. high temperature auto cut out.
A couple of hints I think may be useful are that to slightly increase the capacity, you could leave the basket out and drop food straight into the tub, it's non stick so it shouldn't burn the food, then take it out with a plastic/wooden drip spoon. Also, I'd not tried this and it is not recommended to fill the basket more than half full, but if you stuffed it to the top it'd take a fair amount.
All in all, for just over £20 it'll be a useful unit imo.
